Our client’s cabinets, flooring, countertops and appliances were tired… big time. And the kitchen was the pinch-point in the main traffic pattern from their entry to the family room. To make matters worse, the cabinets above this pinch-point interfered with the cooks being able to see their guests, and they entertain a lot.
Oh, yeah, one more thing: this side of their home got unbearably hot during the summer, driving them out of this space! Literally.
The pinch-point could not be solved without building a 37’ x 2’ addition! Yes, a bizarre shape for an addition but it did the trick.
We got rid of the hanging cabinetry as well. With new Loewen aluminum-clad wood windows and a ductless mini-split HVAC system, we eliminated this very hot region of the home and improved the home’s overall energy efficiency.
