Our expertise in home improvement, existing structures and property preservation began in 1955. The current incarnation of A-1 Builders as a worker-owned cooperative became an attractive succession plan to owners Rick Dubrow and Cindi Landreth back in 2007. Rick had been at the helm for 41 years; Cindi for 12 years. Ten years of study led to the conversion of the company into a Worker Owned Cooperative in July of 2017 with our 5 founding co-owners bringing together a combined 56 years of longevity with our company. Under Rick’s direction, A-1 Builders led the way in Whatcom County by introducing green building and green business practices, then focusing upon the Universal Design and Aging-In-Place movements. Our design/build approach is anchored by the designers and showroom of Adaptations Design Studio. Over the years, A-1 Builders has been recognized with various awards and is a member, founder and/or supporter of a range of organizations such as Sustainable Connections, RE Sources, Futurewise Whatcom, Whatcom Folk School, and Transition Whatcom.
