A-1 Builders and Adaptations Design Studio received the Best Of HOUZZ Award in 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017 for client satisfaction, the leading platform for home remodeling and design. We were chosen by the more than 40 million monthly users that comprise the Houzz community.
In 2012, 2014, 2015 and 2016 we received Angie’s List’s SUPER SERVICE AWARD in their ‘Remodeling – General’ category. The Super Service Award is the highest honor given annually to companies by Angie’s List. “Only about 5 percent of the general remodeling companies in Whatcom County have performed so consistently well enough to earn our Super Service Award,” said Angie’s List Founder Angie Hicks. “It’s a really high standard.”
The Founders of a New Northwest Award for 2002 from Sustainable Northwest (a non-profit organization that promotes stewardship and conservation of natural resources and environmentally compatible economic development throughout Alaska, California, Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Washington.). Although this is a little known award to the lay person, we consider this perhaps the most noteworthy award we’ve ever won. Read about it HERE.
The Washington State Department of Ecology Solid Waste Reduction and Recycling Award for their small business category (less than 100 employees) for the year 2000-2001.
The 2001 Governor’s Award for Pollution Prevention and Sustainable Business Practices.
In 2005 EnviroStars awarded us its highest rating — 5 Stars — and this 5-star certification continues to this day (2013). A-1 Builders is not only the first builder to receive the highest EnviroStars 5-star rating in Whatcom County, we were the second builder in the entire state to be certified as a 5-star EnviroStar!
In 2011 we earned the Governor’s ‘Commute Smart’ Employer Champion Award for our voluntary cycling and Smart Trips incentive program. Our efforts to incorporate cycling into our work also led to a national article about us in the American Cyclist magazine. The Bellingham Business Journal’s 1999 Readers Choice Award for Best Home Builder.
The Bellingham Business Journal’s 2000 Readers Choice Award honorable mention as one of Whatcom County’s Most Community Friendly businesses.
RE Sources’ first annual award in 2003 as their Environmental Hero for their business category.
The Bellingham Business Journal’s Readers Choice Award as Whatcom County’s Most Environmentally Responsible Business in 2004 and 2005.
Received the 2005 Great Feets Award from the Bellingham Bicycle and Pedestrian AdvisoryCommittee for the beautiful, custom-designed and built bicycle parking facility, or bikeport, constructed at the Bellingham Community Food Coop downtown. Practically all materials and labor were donated by our employees, suppliers and subs in celebration of A-1 Builders’ 50th anniversary (1955 – 2005).
In March of 2013 Appliance Depot awarded us their first annual Earth Day award “… for sustainability efforts beyond recycling.” Prior to the showing of the film Trashed at the Pickford Film Center, we were “… honored for (our) leadership in saving old appliances for local reuse….” By saving appliances for local reuse we “… are modeling part of that solution.
In 2015 the Birchwood Neighborhood Association named us a Neighborhood Hero for the public Community Bike Repair & Information Station (C-BRIS) we designed and built at our office. Celebrating our company’s 60th anniversary, the C-BRIS was partial pay-back to our community for helping us achieve our level of success and recognition.
In 2016 Sustainable Connections selected us for their Meaningful Employment Sustainability Champion Award. Every year Sustainable Connections honors five local businesses that are taking steps towards achieving a healthy triple bottom line – taking care of employees, our environment, and the local economy – with a Sustainability Champion Award. This particular award goes to a local company that provides employment opportunities that engage employees, provide livable jobs, and plans for the future.
